Trenck´s Chalice
Only a few authentic monuments survived after František Trenck, who was buried in our tomb. We are very pleased to show you one of them now.
This year marks 150 years since the remains of Baron Franz Trenck were reburied in the chapel under the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross. On the occasion of this anniversary, you can see a unique relic to this famous warrior in the Capuchin Tomb – a rococo chalice belonging to the Roman Catholic Parish in Kolín. And what does this liturgical object have in common with the commander of the corps?
The chalice was ordered by Baron Trenck himself and donated to the city of Kolín. It was there that he suffered a very serious injury in autumn of 1744 and only by a miracle did he not lose his life. Then he expressed his gratitude through a rare gift. And this richly decorated chalice made of gilded silver is currently possible to see in the Capuchin crypt until December 31 of this year.
The chalice has its permanent place in the temple treasury of the church of St. Bartholomew in Kolín and next to the remains of its sponsor, it will appear for the first time in its history.
